2020-03-21 – Port Douglas

Mid-morning we were picked up for our transfer to Port Douglas.  Not sure why we had a transfer instead of driving but whatever.  Our driver was Arnott from France.

We had one photo stop with great views along the coast.

Port Douglas is a charming little town that reminds us a bit of Lahaina, Maui.

After settling into the hotel we headed out to see what there was to see.  We took a walk down by the waterfront.

And stopped in at the little St. Mary’s by the Sea.

The wall behind the altar had a large cut-out that gave great views of the bay and mountains beyond.

We also wandered down to the marina.

Bush Stone Curlew

We found a heart-shaped trellis by the water…obviously set up as a wedding venue.

We found a trail head that took us through the “jungle” along the ocean front.

We found a shortcut up to the road that lead to Flagstaff Hill.  From there we had great views of the bay...

and Four Mile Beach.

The beach had a huge “stinger” pool…a series of booms with nets below.  They help keep the tiny stinger jellyfish out so that people can swim in the ocean.

They also had a mileage marker at the top of the hill with kilometers to major cities all over the world.  We are 11,594 kilometers (7,204 miles) from Los Angeles.

We had an ice cream stop on our way back to the hotel.  It's a lovely town and we really enjoyed it  Our hotel is right on the main street and everything is close.
