2020-03-15 – Whitehaven Beach

We didn’t have anything scheduled today so very early we headed down to the marina to check with one of the tour companies to try to catch a cruise to Whitehaven Beach.  Success.

The cruise out of the bay... and into the Whitsunday Islands was beautiful.

and through the Whitsunday Islands was beautiful.

We stopped first at Hamilton Island, privately owned, with a large resort.  There we picked up quite a few more people.

Then we sailed through the Whitsunday Strait and through the various islands.  It’s a beautiful, sunny day.

The view coming in to the Whitehaven Beach was beautiful.

Whitehaven Beach is gorgeous.  Long sandy beach (95% pure silica sand), lovely turquoise water and green hillsides.

We decided to take a hike to the viewpoints where we had great views of Whitehaven Beach,

A Little Lizard

views of Chance Beach and of islands and straits around the Whitehaven,

There was also a great overlook of Whitehaven Beach,

While getting dressed we were visited by a Lacy Monitor…a very inquisitive fellow.

It is jelly fish season and the tiny jelly fish have dangerous stings.  So we had to don stinger suits.

The water was warm and we enjoyed bobbing around in the water.  Such a beautiful location.

When we got back to our things a couple sitting at the table told us that the lacy monitor had sniffed around Paul’s sandal for a while.  Turned out he left a gift right in the sandal.  Ewwwwww!

Loved the sunglasses on our tender pilot.

The cruise back were a bit bumpy but not bad and the area is just great.
When we got back we walked around town a bit and did a little shopping.  We had been talking about how it would be really great if we had dry bags that were also backpacks.  The item went on our list of things to do when we get home.  However, one of the local chemist shops (pharmacy) had some on display in the front of the shop.  They are a bit heavy but they were exactly what we wanted.  So we bought two.

We had dinner downtown and then walked back to the hotel.  Great day.
