2020-03-12 – Driving to Rockhampton

We had a pretty long drive today to Rockhampton.  But was filled with some interesting and varied sights.  We saw several “big” items including a humpback whale…

and a giraffe.

We also visited the Mystery Craters.  Scientists are unsure exactly how they were formed. But agree that they are over 25 million years old.  They are quite close together and are of varying depths.  Most are not connected to each other so there might be water in one but not the others.

One was shaped like a giant footprint.

They crater site also had an exhibit of old equipment that was rather interesting.

Interesting quotes at the entrance to the Mystery Craters Shop.

We then stopped in the town of Bundaberg.  For a short walk along the river.  The Spider Lilies were in full bloom.

The waterfront had some interesting art pieces.

We stopped at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery for a tour.  Bundaberg rum has won several international rum competitions but is generally unknown in most parts of the world as 95% of it is consumed in Australia.

We passed on the rum sampling but did have lunch at the distillery café before heading on to Rockhampton.
